Introduction
RankMiso is a free, open-source browser extension that inspects a web page after you open the extension on that page. The analysis runs inside your browser. This policy describes RankMiso version 0.1.0.
RankMiso is made by Edeeson Opina as part of the Miso Ecosystem, an independent open-source initiative. You can reach the maintainer at ed@misoecosystem.com.
Who is responsible
Edeeson Opina maintains RankMiso and is responsible for this policy. The source code is public at https://github.com/EdeesonOpina/rankmiso, so anyone can check how the extension behaves.
Information accessed
When you open RankMiso, it reads the page you opened it on. That includes what the audit needs: the address, title, description, headings, links, images, structured data, and social tags on that page.
Reading a page is access to information, even though the analysis stays on your computer, so we list exactly what is read.
- The active tab you chose to inspect, through the activeTab permission.
- Page content extracted with the scripting permission.
- The tab address, only if you grant the optional tabs permission because the browser hid it. It is used to name the tab under analysis. RankMiso does not keep a browsing history.
- For an optional site check that you start: the response headers, robots.txt, the first sitemap listed there, up to eight hreflang alternates, and public links 20 at a time.
Information processed
Analysis runs locally. Page text is passed to the in-browser analysis engine in memory. The audit result does not keep the full page text, and RankMiso does not save page snapshots or reports.
The score summarizes the checks that ran. Checks that could not be evaluated stay out of the score. RankMiso does not calculate search volume, keyword difficulty, traffic, backlinks, or index status.
Browser permissions
The extension requests storage, activeTab, and scripting. Chromium builds also request the side panel permission so the report can open beside the page. Firefox builds declare a data-collection permission of “none” and require Firefox 140 or newer.
- storage: saves your appearance preference.
- activeTab: reads the page on which you opened RankMiso.
- scripting: extracts page content and applies highlights you request.
- sidePanel: Chromium only, for the side panel interface.
- tabs: optional. Requested when the browser hides the address, then used to name the current tab.
- Host access for http and https: optional. Requested for one specific site when you refresh analysis on a new site or start Check this site.
Local storage
The only setting RankMiso stores is your appearance preference: light, dark, or system. It is saved in the extension's local storage under the key seoToolkit.theme, and mirrored to the page's localStorage when available.
The options page includes Clear saved settings, which removes that preference from both places.
Network requests
RankMiso does not contact a RankMiso server, and there is no RankMiso account.
Showing an image thumbnail or a social share image can request that image from the site you already opened.
Check this site stays off until you start it and allow that site. Those requests are made with credentials omitted, redirects handled manually, and a limit of five hops. Local and private addresses are skipped. The results stay in your browser.
RankMiso does not call PageSpeed Insights or the Chrome UX Report, and does not collect Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, or Interaction to Next Paint. The report can show how many resources the current page load requested, from your browser only.
The structured-data view offers a link to Google's public Rich Results Test, which opens in a new tab only if you choose it. RankMiso never submits a page to Google by itself.
Third-party services
RankMiso includes no analytics, advertising, or telemetry. Optional requests go only to the website you chose to inspect, or to a public tool you open yourself.
Your browser vendor runs its own extension platform under its own privacy policy.
Data retention
Audit results are kept in memory while the extension is open and are discarded when you close it.
Your appearance preference remains until you clear saved settings, change it, or remove the extension.
User controls
You decide when to open RankMiso. Moving to another site ends access to the previous page until you refresh the analysis and, when asked, allow the new site.
You can refuse the tabs permission and the per-site host permission. Refusing host permission keeps the optional site check off.
You can clear the saved appearance preference from the extension options at any time.
Security
Extension pages only run scripts that ship with the extension, and allow WebAssembly compilation (wasm-unsafe-eval) because the local analysis engine needs it.
Optional site checks omit cookies, so they are not made as you. A request to a public URL is still visible to the site that receives it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information, including anything RankMiso handles.
Because RankMiso keeps your data on your own device, you can also view or delete it yourself at any time.
Under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you can ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a portable copy. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), you can ask what personal information has been collected about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You will not be treated differently for using these rights.
We do not sell or share personal information, as those laws define selling and sharing, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling.
To make a request, email ed@misoecosystem.com. We respond within one month. We may ask for details that help us confirm the request is yours.
Children's privacy
Miso tools and this website are not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email ed@misoecosystem.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When RankMiso's behavior or this policy changes, we update it on this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will say so clearly on this page before it takes effect.
This version is effective as of October 16, 2026.
